Försvarshögskolan befinner sig i en spännande utvecklingsfas där ny vision och strategi för lärosätet håller på att implementeras. I korthet innebär det att dagens två institutioner kommer att bli fyra, ämnesbärande institutioner.

På strategiavdelningen bedrivs forskning och utbildning i krigsvetenskap. Strategiavdelningen präglas av mötet mellan civil och militär personal där expertis skapas av vetenskap och beprövad erfarenhet. Flera av avdelningens lärare anlitas ofta som experter inom dagsaktuella frågor om strategi och den militära professionen.
Utbildningen i krigsvetenskap vid avdelningen fokuserar främst på kurser om militärstrategi, militär maktutövning, försvarsplanering, civil-militära relationer och strategifrågor i norra Europa. Kurser som genomförs av lärare vid avdelningen finns inom bl.a. forskarutbildningen i krigsvetenskap, masterprogrammet i politik och krig, officersprogrammet, kandidatprogrammet och det högre officersprogrammet. Forskningen i krigsvetenskap vid avdelningen fokuserar främst på frågor om hur man använder, bygger upp, organiserar, och leder stridskrafter. Detta inkluderar bl.a. frågor om avskräckning, interaktionen mellan politiska mål och militära medel och metoder, civil-militära relationer, genus och krig samt försvarsplanering.

The Swedish Defence University are searching for a Research Assistant to the Department of Security, Strategy & Leadership, Division of Strategy.

Work Tasks

The successful candidate is expected to undertake interviews in Filipino and Cebuano; conduct a literature review on women’s labour in civil war; and draft two articles on gender relations in armed conflict in the Philippines.  The candidate will be employed within the framework of the research project Militarized Social Reproduction: Women’s Labour and Civil War.

Whom are we looking for?


Eligible applicants should hold a relevant bachelor degree as well as a master degree in Development Studies, Political Science or similar to the field of subject.


  • Applicants must have documented experience writing in English at an academic level and publishing in English on issues relating to conflict, gender, and human rights. Experience writing and publishing in Filipino is an advantage.
  • Applicants must have research experience of and knowledge about gender, conflict and peace processes in the Philippines, especially concerning the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the New People’s Army.
  • They must have experience of conducting fieldwork and interviews in the Philippines. Prior experience of data collection and documentation is therefore a requirement.


Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability of the applicant, specifically characteristics such as flexibility, problem-solving ability and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines. Taking initiative, a proactive approach to communication with colleagues, and a being independent, structured and organized are important characteristics for this employment.

Other merits

Good analytical skills are necessary. Ability to converse in English, Filipino and Cebuano. Experience and knowledge of gender analysis in warfare and insurgencies, especially in relation to Mindanao, and the Communist Party.

The employment is a time-based contract with start according to agreement.
