Description of subject area
Leadership and Command & Control is an interdisciplinary subject that draws on and develops knowledge from behavioral science, social science and design science. The subjects of study are individuals and groups, functions and technical support as well as how they interact in defense, crisis management and security systems. We also study organizations and the conditions they provide for individuals' behavior. The subject enables studies at different analytical levels and the units of analysis can be individuals, organizations and societies. Within the department, there is a particular focus on research within collaboration in the Swedish total defence, management, selection and recruitment, leadership and working conditions, group processes and issues relating to organization. The department's research and education is based on a theoretical foundation and is closely linked to practices within the University of Defence's main area; defence, crisis management and security. In this way, we contribute with relevant research and training for the Swedish total defence system.
